Bread Potato Roll

Bread Potato Roll

Bread Potato Roll is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that combines soft bread with a flavorful potato filling. The result is a warm, crispy exterior with a savory, spiced interior,  a popular choice for breakfast, snacks, or appetizers.

 Ingredients

For the Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon instant yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup warm milk (or water)
2 tablespoons melted butter (or oil)

For the Filling:

2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
1 small onion, finely chopped
1-2 green chilies, chopped (optional)
½ teaspoon cumin seeds
½ teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander, chopped (optional)
Oil for frying (if pan-frying)

 Instructions

 Make the Dough:

1. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
2. Add Wet Ingredients: Gradually add warm milk and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Filling:

1. Cook the Onions: In a pan, heat a little oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden.
2. Mix Filling: In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, sautéed onions, green chilies, garam masala, and salt. Mix well. Add fresh coriander if using.

 Assemble the Rolls:

1. Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
2. Fill: Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal.
3. Second Rise: Place the filled rolls seam-side down on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

 Bake or Fry:

Baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with melted butter or egg wash and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Frying: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the Bread Potato Roll  until golden brown on all sides.

 Serve:

Enjoy your Potato Bread Rolls warm, with ketchup or chutney on the side!
